THE EUROPEAN KITESURF MECCA

Information

Kite Season:
01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12

Tarifa has always been special to us, and kiters the world over can’t help being drawn to Europe’s kitesurfing metropolis. Tarifa has long been the adopted country for many pros who can’t get enough of the Spanish laid back surfer lifestyle, along with endless tapas and party nights in the old town.
The 10km long stretch of sandy beach offers stunning views across to Morocco, and the wind blows almost non stop across the straits of Gibraltar.

Tarifa is consistently windy and experiences either the mild ‘Poniente’ (westerly wind) driven by strong sea breezes, or the ‘Levante’ which blows from the hot desert in the opposite direction.

There’s rarely a time without wind, but on the rare occasion, we offer wakeboarding, surfing, SUP or longboarding too. With KiteWorldWide you’re safe in the knowledge you’ll have an amazing experience in the surfer’s paradise of Tarifa!

What you get

  • Spanish lifestyle and epic nightlife
  • High wind probability and mild climate
  • Only a few flying hours away from north Europe

Gabri, Kite Centre Manager

"As I drive up the last hill before arriving into Tarifa and I see the panoramic view of the beach ahead, it never ceases to lift my mood and make me feel lucky that we can call Tarifa our home. The small hippy surf town might now be a cosmopolitan mecca for watersports, but you can still find the soul of the place whenever you walk on the sand or have a cerveza and watch the sun go down"

KITESURFING IN TARIFA

Kitespot & Kiteschool

Tarifa is located on the Straits of Gibraltar where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet causing the wind to funnel like a jet. Here, Europe and Africa are only as little as 14 km away from one another, and the area is especially warm due to the straits and ocean currents.

In Tarifa and the surrounding area there are tons of spots with different conditions for all kitesurf levels. It’s possible to kitesurf outside of our main location and the KiteWorldWide team will give you all the information you need to make sure you get the most from your holiday.

Accommodation

FIND THE PERFECT KITE ACCOMMODATION FOR YOUR NEXT STAY IN TARIFA

KITEWORLDWIDE TOWNHOUSE TARIFA

Our Spanish townhouse is located in the middle of the old town of Tarifa. It has been completely renovated with great attention to detail in the local Andalusian style. The highlight is the atrium in the middle of the house and the bright open courtyard.
Three studios of varying size occupy the lower floor, each with its own bathroom and kitchenette. You’ll discover a friendly atmosphere with like-minded people where you can dine together on the rooftop terrace or in the comfortable living area and chat about your successful day on the water.
However, please note that as our Tarifa accommodation is located in the middle of the old town, it’s close proximity to the bars may mean it can get loud in the evenings during high season (mainly August).
You can also book one of the four beautiful super bedrooms on the upper floor, each with its own bathroom (the ‘Master Bedroom’ even has its own balcony). You’ll have access to the whole house including the living room/kitchen and the huge roof terrace with breathtaking views over the city. Sit back and relax while you watch the wind fill into the harbour.
The largest of the studios (Studio 1) has a bathroom with a bathtub and shower, a fully equipped kitchen and direct access to the common courtyard. Please note that this studio is located directly on a small side street and can get a little louder during high season. In addition to a private kitchen and bathroom, Studio 3 also features a private courtyard with a seating area.

CATERING

In our townhouse you cater for yourself as all rooms, apartments and studios either have their own kitchens, or you have use of the shared kitchen. We like to cook together as well as discover the surrounding bars and restaurants to enjoy the excellent Spanish food on offer.

Extra activities

OTHER ACTIVITIES BESIDES KITESURFING

NOT INCLUDED IN PACKAGE PRICE

TANGIER

You may be able to see the African coastline some days, but the 14km crossing is a little far to swim! However, it's easy enough to jump a ferry for the short boat ride to the African continent. The Tarifa ferry crossing is the fastest across the Straits of Gibraltar reaching Morocco in just 35 minutes.
The trip to Tangier is a great experience where you can walk around the traditional Moroccan markets. Shopping at the typical market stalls and shops will take you worlds away as you soak up the Moroccan culture.

GIBRALTAR

Gibraltar is easily accessible by rental car and worth a visit, although don’t forget your ID cards! Gibraltar remains under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom and you will see English policemen and red phone boxes, yet this British overseas territory is just 6.5km²!
The Rock of Gibraltar is well worth the climb and home to the only naturally living monkeys in Europe, but take care as they can get cheeky!
The southernmost point of Gibraltar offers overwhelming views of the African and Spanish coastline, as well as across the Straits of Gibraltar.

WHALES & DOLPHINS

Another real highlight is taking a boat tour to see the many whales and dolphins around the coast of Tarifa. You’ll have the opportunity to discover different dolphin species: common dolphins, striped dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and porpoises. With a little luck, you may see swordfish, sperm whales, or finbacks swimming between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea through the Strait of Gibraltar. The sea life here is truly amazing.

PARAGLIDING

If kiteloops are not giving you enough air, take a paragliding flight and enjoy the fascinating views over Tarifa, the Spanish Cote de Luz, and the corner of the African coastline.

HORSE RIDING

Tarifa is not only a kitesurfer’s paradise as horse lovers can discover trails to die for. Trek through the spectacular dunes of Punta Paloma in the Natural Park of El Estrecho, and with Africa on the horizon, the views are fantastic. You’ll experience all the elements of nature: fauna, flora, sea, mountains and wind. Even if you’ve experienced horse riding before, Tarifa offers a unique opportunity.
All EU citizens can enter with a passport or valid ID card.
You can reach Tarifa via cheap airlines like RyanAir, Iberia, AirBerlin, Norwegian and EasyJet amongst others. For any questions or advice, do not hesitate to contact us!

There are a lot of good restaurants and bars around Tarifa, so it really depends if you rather cook in the apartment or go out for lunch and dinner every day. We recommend another 30-40€ pp per day.
